As I was hired in the middle of the year, I did not have access to the campus until school began, providing me with three weeks to build this show. Some work had been done before the break, but most of the scenery had to be created from fresh lumber rather than stock materials. A key element of this play is that a portion of the castle must move downstage with the Beast while he is singing and then be re-attached to the castle as the audience watches. The village houses, fountain, and game lodge were constructed entirely from new materials. The castle staircase was made using floating stairs, with each tread like a miniature elevated platforms attached together by bracing and railing. The facia of the castle was formed with vacuum-formed plastic from an earlier production.
