The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet TD & Designer Wylie High School

Shakespeare’s play set in an “Old Western” motif.

Servant of Two Masters, TD & Designer, Wylie High School

Moliere’s play is presented in a period commedia dell’arte’ style. The scenery created was a forced perspective and an added thrust to the proscenium stage to provide the illusion of more depth on stage, placing the performers closer to the audience.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, TD & Designer, Wylie High School

The Director’s concept was to place Shakespeare’s play in NYCs Central Park during the 1980’s. The rocks, found in the park, were mimicked as a means of creating levels.  Two wagons (on casters) were made that so that each could fit together or be rotated to give a  different look. Central Park is also famous for having various bridges, so we also added one to the unit scenery, painting it a light gray so to reflect lighting effects.

The Rimers of Eldritch, TD & Designer, Wylie East High School

For two years, I was a designated TD and teacher for both high schools, Wylie and Wylie East. I taught in the mornings at one and in the afternoons at the other. At Wylie East, I was their very first technical theatre teacher, so I also served to provide suggestions for both a classroom curriculum, and scene shop design.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, TD & Designer, Wylie High School

This famous play by Tom Stoppard is staged on a boat, where the two characters’ futures from Shakespeare’s Hamlet are doomed.

Right Bed, Wrong Husband, TD & Designer, Harlingen Community Theatre, Harlingen, TX

Whle living in Harlingen, and teaching at a nearby middle school, I also served as a director and technical director/designer for the community theatre. Since Hurricane Katrina had wiped out most of the existing contents of this theatre, one of the challenges was to build everything from scratch, making the scenic pieces ones that could be reused for multiple productions.

Arsenic and Old Lace, TD & Scenic Designer, Theatre West, Scottsbluff, NE

While teaching at a nearby high school, during the summer months I served as the technical director and scenic designer for all of their plays and musical. This is a two-level interior set of a Victorian home designed for Joseph Kesselring’s classic play. I also pictured a hand drawn floor plan and working drawings.

The Odd Couple, TD & Scenic Designer, Theatre West, Scottsbluff, NE

This set had to have the illusion of a functioning kitchen in which Oscar throws a full plate of spaghetti against the wall, so the wall needed to be strong enough to withstand this action through several performances. The interior design has a Martha Stewart feeling, as it was designed by Felix’s wife. Since the audience is so close to the stage, I also detailed the floor to look like tile and painted hardwood.
